Better Collective is a leading sports betting media group that improves the global sports betting experience. We create a transparent and safe betting environment through innovative technologies and trusted platforms that deliver transparent and responsible sports betting content.

The role

As a Lead Developer you will be responsible for maintaining applications and websites built on top of WordPress and node.js, developing new features and to lead the building of new systems from scratch. Being one of our Developers, we expect that you take ownership and responsibility for the components that you are working on as well as take the leading role in the team.

Based in our London office, with a flexible working from home policy, you will become part of a highly skilled and dedicated team.


What will be your daily tasks

  • Lead a small, lean team of developers 

  • Transferring business needs into technical tasks 

  • You will use a tech stack including PHP, WordPress, node.js (express) and vue.js from time to time

  • Design, develop & maintain code for our platforms and websites

  • Keep the standards for producing high-quality code 

  • Solving complex challenges such as performance, scalability, and security 

  • As a programmer, you'll also be responsible for reviewing the code of others in your team

  • Take part in meetings - technical, discussion about architecture and tools we use 


Our ideal candidate

  • Has in-depth professional experience as a PHP developer

  • Has good knowledge on Object Oriented Programming and design patterns

  • Has strong experience in WordPress development and experienced in using Advanced Custom Fields

  • Experience working with WordPress Multisites

  • Knows WordPress REST API

  • Is able to configure LAMP/LEMP for WordPress

  • Is well experienced with HTML/CSS/JavaScript 

  • Has at least basic knowledge on JavaScript backend development, including node.js 

  • Is experienced with relational databases, can model and optimize schemas and can profile queries

  • Knows how to write clean and refactor worse code

  • Is experienced with GIT

  • Knows AWS (Amazon Web Services) - mainly EC2, RDS, EBS, Cloudfront, S3

  • Able to manage SSL Certificates

  • Knows Cloudflare

  • Takes care of the documentation

  • Is flexible, open minded and feels responsible for the components

  • Does not mind working in sports betting and online gambling

  • Is proactive and passionate about reaching goals and has a keen eye for detail

  • Is keen on discussing technical challenges, shares knowledge and keeps developing their skills

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in some of the above criteria is advantageous
